The 5R Approach to Healing Your Gut and Reconnecting With Your Health
If your gut isn’t happy, chances are the rest of your body isn’t either. Digestive issues, low energy, brain fog, aches and pains, even mood swings – they can all trace back to what’s happening inside your gut.
That’s why I love using a simple, structured approach to help my clients restore balance to their digestive system and overall health. I call it the 5R Approach: Remove, Rebalance, Repopulate, Repair, and Reconnect.
Let me walk you through what this looks like in practice.
1.Remove – Clearing Out the Harmful Stuff
The first step is all about creating a clean slate for your gut.
We start by identifying and removing anything that’s causing irritation or harm, such as:
Foods you’re allergic or sensitive to
Pathogens in your digestive tract (like harmful bacteria or parasites)
Toxins from your food, water, or environment
Poor sleep habits and unmanaged stress – because they can be just as damaging as diet
Through a mix of symptom tracking and functional testing, we can also pinpoint deficiencies that are making things worse – for example, low levels of essential vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes, bile acids, and fatty acids. Addressing these is key before moving forward.
2. Rebalance – Nourishing Your Body Back to Health
Once the irritants are out, it’s time to rebuild. Here, we focus on giving your body exactly what it needs to function at its best.
This might include:
